McGee Gallery and Framing
Barbara McGee
  • “Painting gives me an avenue to explore the romance and emotion
that surround and embody the West.”

Barbara-McGee

Born and raised on an Iowa farm, McGee spent her childhood either riding horses or drawing them.
By age thirteen she knew she wanted to be an artist.

McGee graduated from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa in 1981 with a BA Degree in Art, and has since pursued  art as a full time career.
Horses have always been her main focus, but now she also paints cowboys, rodeo scenes, portraits, landscapes and florals.
Her main area of concentration is watercolor, but she is also an accomplished  oil and pastel painter.

In 1990, McGee started entering juried competitions; realized a long time dream of becoming a member of Women Artists of the West; and began showing her work at professional art shows around the country.
Her paintings have been accepted in many regional and national competitions in both the United States and Canada.

Barb opened McGee Gallery and Framing in 2000, giving her not only a place to showcase her work, but also a place to showcase manyof northwest Iowa’s finest artists’.
McGee’s studio is connected to the gallery, giving visitors an opportunity see new works at varying stages of creation.

In 2003 McGee joined the planning Committee for the Artisans Road Trip, a self guided Studio tour around Northwest Iowa.
2010  is the seventh year for this event.
